The College of Letters & Science (L&S)—the largest of UWM’s schools and colleges—offers 98 undergraduate and graduate degree programs within 25 departments dedicated to the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. When you support L&S, your gift helps more than 9,000 students, faculty, and staff.
Your generosity enables us to enhance the quality of our students’ education through scholarships and fellowships, faculty research and other support, expanded academic programs, and study abroad opportunities.
Many L&S students enroll in the Honors College. The UWM Honors College provides all the benefits of a small liberal arts college—such as close faculty interaction and highly personalized mentoring— in addition to the world-class research and scholarship of a major university.
What to Support
Gifts of any size make a real difference in the lives of L&S students and faculty. Please consider a philanthropic investment today. Here are some specific ways you can help.
The New Directions Scholarship Fund
Each year, the L&S New Directions Scholarship Fund awards $3,500 scholarships to exceptional incoming freshmen. Renewable for up to three additional years, it often helps Scholars work fewer hours in outside jobs and devote more time to studying. With our donors’ generous support, we have awarded over 600 New Directions Scholarships to date.
The Access to Excellence Scholarship Fund
L&S is committed to providing all students with the tools they need to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits, regardless of their personal economic situation. The Access to Excellence Fund, for students with sophomore standing or above, offers the financial support these students need most, giving them the opportunity to explore new educational opportunities and experiences.
The L&S General Fund
The L&S General Fund sponsors faculty research and provides infrastructure support for academic programs. Contributions to this Fund enable L&S to continue its dual mission of nurturing today’s groundbreaking research and educating tomorrow’s leaders.

Will or Other Estate Plan
To learn more about including UWM in your will or other estate plan, visit our Planned Giving website.
Stock or Other Appreciated Securities
Gifts of publicly traded securities that have appreciated in value allow you to avoid capital gains taxes, while also receiving a tax deduction for your gift. UWM benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from knowing that your contribution is larger than it would have been as a cash gift.
Please send (or ask your broker to send) the UWM stock gift form to the UWM Foundation prior to transferring the securities, to make sure you receive proper acknowledgement for your gift.
