Why Support

The School of Information Studies (SOIS) develops the skills that connect people with the information they need. We prepare professionals to be the “human side” of information technology, and to serve as leaders in knowledge-based environments. Through our innovative research and scholarship, we contribute to the international knowledge base and to our driving goal of achieving universal access to information.

SOIS enriches the information professions by recruiting students from diverse geographic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Our programs—an undergraduate degree in Information Science and Technology, a master’s in Library and Information Science, and a Ph.D. in Information Studies—cover the full spectrum of contemporary information needs, access, and practices.

U.S. News and World Report ranks SOIS the number 15 Information School in the nation, making it Wisconsin’s premier program.

What to Support

The School of Information Studies invites alumni and friends to join us and help train the next generation of information professionals. Here are some specific ways you can help:

  • Scholarships

To help us recruit excellent, diverse students. The library field attracts passionate, fully engaged students, but it lacks high-earning potential—and loan debt is a major obstacle. Scholarships enable SOIS students to graduate on time and to launch their careers with greater financial security.

  • A Computer Lab Space with Cutting-edge Technology

To enrich the students’ experience and inspire entrepreneurship.

  • Funding for Internships & Community Service Programs

To deliver information technology services throughout greater Milwaukee and provide hands-on learning opportunities for students.

Please send (or ask your broker to send) the UWM stock gift form to the UWM Foundation prior to transferring the securities, to make sure you receive proper acknowledgement for your gift.
