Why Support

As one of the 14 schools and colleges at UWM, the School of Continuing Education (SCE) is the largest provider of noncredit continuing education in southeastern Wisconsin. Our year-round operations are the gateway to lifelong learning for those ages five-to-95. We serve over 9,000 participants from different backgrounds, all of whom want to enhance their knowledge and develop new skills. Our more than 1,000 courses cover diverse topics, like Water Technology, Project Management, and Early Childhood and Youth Work, and our programs range from College for Kids to the Osher Life Long Learning Institute. Engaging instructors who are experienced, real-world practitioners lead the classes.

SCE is committed to competency-based programming, as well as local and global collaborations in Public and Non-Profit Administration, Business & Management, Engineering, Culture & Language, and many more disciplines. Each term, we introduce new, innovative programming to remain current with participants’ needs and changes in the work world. Your philanthropic investment will support our community’s current and future needs.

What to Support:

The School of Continuing Education offers noncredit courses that focus on professional development and personal enrichment for students of all ages. Your philanthropic investment will support our community’s current and future needs.

  • College for Kids/Teens

Fund scholarships for low-income students to attend our College for Kids program, and for students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. With your support, many Milwaukee-area students will benefit from the fun, enriching College for Kids experience.

  • Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Sponsor outreach and programming to attract more members to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, which offers a wide range of courses and programs for older adults who are passionate about learning.

  • Water Technology

Support innovative programming and scholarships to develop water technology professionals, who will encourage water-usage efficiency, water-centric communities, and sustainability practices to protect our region’s precious water resources.

  • Facilities Upgrade

Underwrite upgrades for the SCE Conference Services Center, to provide attractive, state-of-the-art classrooms for professionals and their organizations in downtown Milwaukee—as well as a new facility for live, online broadcasts.

  • Veterans Scholarships

Provide scholarships for veterans for noncredit courses and certifications. The state of Wisconsin does not offer our vets any financial support for these educational opportunities; instead, we must rely upon private funds to help them prepare for the next chapter in their lives.

Will or Other Estate Plan
To learn more about including UWM in your will or other estate plan, visit our Planned Giving website.
Stock or Other Appreciated Securities
Gifts of publicly traded securities that have appreciated in value allow you to avoid capital gains taxes, while also receiving a tax deduction for your gift. UWM benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from knowing that your contribution is larger than it would have been as a cash gift.

Please send (or ask your broker to send) the UWM stock gift form to the UWM Foundation prior to transferring the securities, to make sure you receive proper acknowledgement for your gift.
