Abstract: Like early cartographers, philosophers and scientists that hypothesized the world was indeed round and not flat. The nature of what maps are and what they can do is changing. As cities move from static information and static maps to interactive maps powered by real-time data and sensor information, how will that change the work of GIS professionals, data scientists, and civic technologists? Using examples around the country, we’ll explore a future where maps aren’t just visual snapshots, they are active strategic tools that will empower a smart city revolution.
