Research & Teaching Interests

Rachel N. Baum is Deputy Director of the Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies. She is also Co-Director, with Dr. Hank Knight, of the Stephen Weinstein Holocaust Symposium. The Weinstein Symposium is an international group of Holocaust scholars and educators who meet biennially at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Wroxton College campus in England. Dr. Baum has been part of the symposium since its inception in 1996 and became Co-Director in 2016.

Dr. Baum’s current research focuses on how new technologies such as holography and virtual reality are impacting our memory of the Holocaust. She has presented her work at conferences in Tel Aviv, Berlin, Southampton, and Los Angeles, and is currently working on a monograph on the subject.

Dr. Baum regularly teaches courses on the Holocaust, Jewish film, and Jewish-American culture. She is currently on the Board of Directors of the Holocaust Education and Resource Center.
