It’s FAFSA time again! For the first time, you can file your FAFSA as early as October 1!

We know you’ve just gotten yourself in the swing of the 2016-2017 school year, but we think this is pretty exciting. For the second year in a row, the FAFSA will be based on your 2015 federal tax information. This means that you already have all the information you need to complete your FAFSA for next year.  Here’s what you need to know about filing your FAFSA early:

What:  File your 2017-18 FAFSA to get financial aid for Fall 2017 through Summer 2018.

Who:   Anyone who plans to attend UWM in the 2017-18 school year.

Why:   You’ve probably already filed your taxes, so you have everything you need to submit it and you won’t have to worry about it later.

How:   On October 1 or after, log in on FAFSA.gov and be sure to select the 2017-18 FASFA. Don’t forget to add UWM’s school code (003896) and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool if you can. If you’re not sure how to use that tool, you can see detailed instructions here.
