Between May 27th through the 30th, the 6th annual International Conference on Porous Media and annual meeting was held here in Milwaukee at the Wisconsin Center. Over 300 delegates from all over the world attended. The aim of this interdisciplinary conference was to bring scholars and experts from multiple fields together to discuss current research being done in porous media applications and to exchange ideas. Several of the topics discussed included the fundamentals of porous media, experimental techniques in porous media and multi-scale modeling. Some world-renowned researchers including the legendary Prof. Steve Whitaker of the University of California – Davis and Prof. Michael Celia of Princeton University were recognized at the conference.
This year’s conference was organized in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and was organized by professors of the College of Engineering & Applied Science and the College of Letters & Science. Everyone praised the well organized conference. The local organizing committee, chaired by Dr. Krishna Pillai (Engineering), included Dr. Woo-Jin Chang and Dr. Jin Li of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Weon Shik Han, Dr. Shangping Xu, and Dr. Thomas Hooyer from the Geosciences department in the College of Letters & Science. The committee was ably supported by the staff and students of both Colleges of Engineering and Letters & Science.
