We are still waiting for the Legislature to pass a budget and the Governor to sign it into action. The UW Regents did pass a 2%+2% pay raise plan for the upcoming biennium, but we’ll see if the Legislature and Governor pass and sign it into existence. In other budget related news, the Regents supported a $59M capital budget. This will be used to renovate the Chemistry building and the NW Quadrant. As you may know, the SOE is slated one day to move into the NW Quadrant when it is ready. This is the best budget news UWM has received in a decade.

Provost and SOE Dean and Chairs Retreat
On Tuesday afternoon, the Provost met with the chairs and myself in his conference room. He gave a budget update for the school. His message is our operating budget is approximately $9.9M and that we must stay within this annual budget going forth. He was open to creative ideas for departments to manage their own budget, so Jessica will be providing each department with their own budget to live within. There are two key factors in the budgeting process. Every unit must stay within their given budget and they must also meet their revenue targets.
