Dr. Alan Shoho, Dean, School of EducationWelcome to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Education (SOE) website. In the past year, the SOE web team has made tremendous advancements to this website. But more is coming in the near future when we start to display our US News and World Report Ranking along with a dashboard of key performance metrics that highlight the School of Education. These metrics illustrate areas of strength as well as areas of challenge where we need to improve. I have no doubt that with a team effort; the School of Education will achieve its vision of becoming a premier urban school of education recognized for its work in diversity, research, teaching, and community engagement.

There are many exciting things going on in the School of Education and you can read about them in our newly launched monthly e-newsletters as well as my Monday weekly messages. Every day I am impressed by the commitment of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni to excellence and pushing the boundaries of what is possible to improve the quality of education for those who need it the most.

The School of Education has a proud history dating back to 1885 as UWM was originally founded as the Milwaukee State Normal School. Today, we prepare students to be 21st Century teachers, adult educators, administrators, community leaders, researchers, counselors, sign language interpreters, trainers in the business community and for many more education-related careers.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve the School of Education and the greater Milwaukee community as the Dean of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I invite you to explore our website to find your calling, your passion and your career in education. There is no more noble a profession than the education, because we help create the next generation of societal leaders and people with hope.
