CBE RFP and Addendum

Thank you for your interest in the DETA request for proposals (RFP) for competency-based education (CBE) and the DETA Research Toolkit addendum specific to CBE.

Note: The CBE RFP will close January 12, 2016, 11:59PM CST. Late submissions will automatically be omitted from the competition.  Awards will be announced no later than February 19, 2016 with research to begin March 1, 2016.

Background

As a field of research, CBE is relatively unexplored, and this RFP offers the opportunity to have a foundational impact on our understanding of student success in competency-based educational delivery and design. Through this exploratory research initiative, we hope to identify metrics that are specific to competency-based education (e.g., how to reliably measure demonstrable discipline-specific knowledge, what key performance measures are most important for career success, what motivates students to regulate their own learning at their own pace). Future competency-based education RFPs will build upon what is learned during this exploratory round of funded research.

Therefore, through a competitive grant process DETA is allocating funding to study IHE’s across the country that offer competency-based education programs. This research is to focus on valid and reliable best practice metrics in the design and delivery of competency-based education programs. Grant recipients may focus on course-level and/or institutional-level 2-year and 4-year IHEs. Response to this call for proposals will result in stipends ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. Eligibility for funding will be determined by: 1) the level of contribution to the field; 2) the degree to which the proposal meets stated grant requirements, and 3) the level of perceived need to conduct the proposed research.
