World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) National Conference scholarship opportunity

The World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) is offering a limited number of scholarships to undergraduate students around the country to attend their 2016 National Conference.  The conference will take place from November 16-18 in Washington DC, and feature presentations and discussions by leading foreign policy figures exploring the theme “America and Global Megatrends.”

More information about the conference and speakers is available at http://nationalconference2016.worldaffairscouncils.org/. The scholarship includes the cost of registration and $1000 to support travel and lodging.

Scholarship recipients will be expected to blog and post on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) before, during, and after the National Conference, and submit a two-page report on their experience after the conference.

CIE’s Institute of World Affairs (IWA) will nominate a student from the Milwaukee area for one of these scholarships, and is accepting applications for potential nominees.  If you are interested in applying, please send a resume and letter of interest to Nicole Palasz (palasz@uwm.edu) by Tuesday, October 4th, 2016.  The letter should outline how you meet most or all of the following criteria for the scholarships:

– Academic interest in international affairs
– Extracurricular activities in international affairs
– Leadership qualities and potential
– Travel experience
– Career aspirations
– Involvement with the Institute of World Affairs
– Ways you would share the experience during the conference and upon your return
– Any other information you think would be relevant

IWA will select one undergraduate student to nominate for a national scholarship by October 5, 2016 and may need additional information from the nominee at that time to submit to the national office for consideration.  Scholarship awards will be announced by October 14, 2016.

If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact Nicole Palasz at palasz@uwm.edu.
