Dear Colleagues,

I’m writing to share the good news with you that the Kelben Foundation has made a $5 million gift to UWM. Mary and Ted Kellner, the foundation’s founders, are passionate about education and business, and have chosen to use this gift to support faculty at the School of Education and the Lubar Center for Entrepreneurship, and to provide scholarships at the School of Education and the Lubar School of Business. Mary received her master’s degree from the School of Education in 1978, and the Kellners have previously supported a professorship at that school.

With this gift, we have raised more than $100 million for UWM over the past four years. 2013 marked the start of the “quiet phase” of our multiyear comprehensive campaign called Made in Milwaukee, Shaping the World.

I am extremely grateful to the Kelben Foundation and our friends Mary and Ted Kellner, who are among the most generous donors to the campaign thus far. Our success in this campaign is due to contributions from thousands of individuals, corporations, and foundations, many of whom have made six- and seven-figure gifts. More than 14,000 donors have contributed to the campaign so far, including 7,450 of our alumni.

The Office for Development is spearheading this effort, and I thank this team, led by Vice Chancellor Patricia Borger, for their dedication to strengthening UWM. Going forward, Vice Chancellor Borger will share with you a monthly update highlighting notable gifts and the impact they have on our students, our faculty, and the surrounding community.
