Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

With spring-like weather finally emerging and end-of-semester activities underway, it is a great time to think about taking care of yourself and spending some time outdoors. As an avid cyclist I am pleased to share with you a number of campus bicycling activities, including the formation of a Chancellor’s Cycling Group.

Chancellor’s Cycling Group Survey

Our campus has a strong bike culture that I’d like to see grow even more. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts on the kinds of bicycling activities, groups, and information that are of interest to you by taking the Chancellor’s Cycling Group survey. Personally, I’m looking forward to some group rides in the area that conclude with social time at local establishments and city parks.

Bike to UWM Day on May 20

May is National Bike Month, which features Bike to Work Day on May 20. Join UWM riders from two locations, both beginning at 7:30 a.m.

  • Ride from the north – Meet at Martinizing Dry Cleaners at the intersection of East Hampton Avenue and Wilson Drive in Shorewood
  • Ride from the south – Meet at McKinley Marina parking lot

Both groups will ride to UWM via the Oak Leaf Trail into campus for a short gathering on Spaights Plaza. For further details, visit our Biking at UWM webpage or the Bike to UWM Facebook page.

UWM Team for UPAF Ride for the Arts

Today is the last day to register as part of the UWM team for the June 5th UPAF Ride for the Arts. There are four routes varying from 10 to 70 miles. Visit the UPAF Ride website for more information and to register. If you would like to register as part of our team, choose “I am an individual signing up as part of a team” and then select Prowling Panther Bicycle Club from the drop-down menu. After selecting the team name, you will be asked to enter our team password, which is: panthers. Individual registration continues through June 4.

UWM Bike Jersey

Wheel & Sprocket is now carrying a UWM bike jersey. Factoid: This jersey was designed in part by my wife, Sara, as a Chancellor Inauguration gift.

Town-Gown Showdown – National Bike Challenge

Log your cycling miles from now through September for the National Bike Challenge. UWM is also part of the Town-Gown Showdown challenge, a friendly competition with riders from Milwaukee County, MMSD, MATC, Marquette University, and Alverno College. Sign up here: https://nationalbikechallenge.org/workplace/4152

There is no shortage of opportunities to cycle with UWM and I hope you will join me on many rides.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone
