Budget winners and losers from UW campuses’ project wish lists

  • UWM got $52.1 million of its original $69 million bonding authority request to continue renovating the old Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital complex, which it purchased for $20 million when the hospital closed and abandoned 4.5 city blocks of buildings adjacent to campus in 2010. The governor recommended this project in his budget.
  • UWM also got $31 million bonding authority for phase one of renovating Sandburg residence hall on the main campus. The governor recommended approval of this project in his budget.
  • UWM did not get $7 million in bonding authority it requested to upgrade its chemistry building, which has serious issues.
