Tales of a Future Past:
An Evening of Video with Cecelia Condit
At the end of last semester, video artist Cecelia Condit retired from teaching, after over three decades as an always-inspiring, rigorously dedicated instructor in the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation, and New Genres. Her teaching remains legendary.
Tonight, we pay tribute — and give thanks — with this program of her video work, selected from across thirty years of production. The parade of videos to screen will chart a history of Condit’s modes of storytelling, a catalogue of her varying concerns (the representation of women’s lives, the valence of fairy tales, the fragility of the world in general), and, in its way, a history of video itself.
The artist has left the classroom, but, generously, she will be present at this screening.
Video to screen includes: Beneath the Skin (1981); Possibly in Michigan (1983); Annie Lloyd (2008); Pulling up Roots (2015); Some Dark Place (2016); Tales of a Future Past (2017); & Pizzly Bear (2017).
Experimental Tuesdays at the Union Cinema is a free series unspooling on most Tuesdays throughout the semester that shares contemporary and canonical experimental media. Presented by the UWM Union Cinema and the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation, and New Genres.
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
