POSTPONED: The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson

November 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

SCHEDULE CHANGE:

The Festival needs to postpone our previously scheduled free screening of David France’s The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson. The film has become a contested document, with challenges against the ethics of its authorship. While the Festival wants this critical and underreported history on our screens — which was why we had initially programmed the film — we are not in a position to either litigate these accusations nor their denials. We prefer, in the short run,  to wait to screen this film until those challenges find their resolution, a resolution that may entail the completion of  Reina Gossett’s and Sasha Wortzel’s Happy Birthday, Marsha! We look forward to screening then both of these films to illuminate our screens with the stories of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera and to continue the sharply necessary debates about ownership and authorship, access and history.
