Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series: Greg Martens
April 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Gregory Martens shakes off the pressure to conform, tapping into his early joy of drawing, and filling his prints, artists books, and drawings with the absurd, the demonic, the historical, the political, and cool cars.
Martens’ diverse experience includes winning first place at an international show carving competition in Harbin, China, receiving a research grant to study Spanish tiles in Lima, Peru, and presenting an etching demonstration for the Milwaukee Art Museum Print Forum.
Martens’ works have been exhibited and collected around the world at venues including the JM Kohler Art Museum, The International Print Center of New York, The Milwaukee Art Museum Print Collection, The Museum of Wisconsin Art, and the Southern Graphics Council Archive.
The Department of Art & Design proudly presents the 11th season of Artists Now!, a Wednesday evening lecture series designed for a broad audience with an interest in contemporary visual art. It presents a diverse group of artists working across traditional, hybrid and emergent disciplines. Join these nationally and inter- nationally recognized practitioners as they explore and expand the boundaries of creative visual practice today.
All lectures take place on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the Arts Center Lecture Hall on the UWM campus. FREE and open to the public!
