From the Archives: Bent (On Having a Good Time)

September 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Experimental Tuesdays at the Union Cinema presents…

From the ArchivesBent (On Having a Good Time)

Curated by Drew Durepos, MFA Candidate in the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation, and New Genres.

This selection of films showcases makers known for blending experimental approaches with absurdist or comedic sensibilities. Their works use humor to defamiliarize subjects as complicated as racial stereotypes or gender norms, to those as commonplace as drunkenness or sperm.

Through an artistic ethic valuing the stimulation of laughter for viewers and makers alike, these filmmakers invite us to enter positions of subversive social critique, while encouraging us to get our kicks at the same time.

The From The Archives series invites Graduate Students from the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation, and New Genres to collaborate with the Department’s Archive to curate an evening for Experimental Tuesdays. Much thanks to the Department’s Archive Director Kati Katchever for her help in unvaulting the prints and readying them for screening.

Experimental Tuesdays at the Union Cinema is a free series unspooling on most Tuesdays throughout the semester that shares contemporary and canonical experimental media. Presented by the UWM Union Cinema and the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation, and New Genres.

Free and open to all!
