Biography

Beverly R. Belfer is a senior lecturer Emerita in the Music Department, Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the author of

Don’t Fret the Frets: A Beginning Guitar Method for 1 to 10, and Beyond Fretting the Frets: An Intermediate Guitar Method (two volumes).

Dr. Belfer has taught more than 18,000 students how to play the guitar at UW-M, and has taught guitar for the following UW-M Departments: Center for General Music, Division of Urban Outreach and Continuing Education, the Milwaukee Folk Center, and the Metropolitan Arts Program. She has served on the faculty of Parkside University and Concordia University.

Dr. Belfer is a past member of the Milwaukee Conservatory Chamber Singers, along with the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus.

Dr. Belfer was selected as a presenter for The Last Lecture Series by Mortar Board and Pre-Med/Pre-Health, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Beverly is UW-M Chapter Coordinator, Board Member and National Education Director of Guitars for Vets ( www. guitarsforvets.org), an organization designed to help military veterans with post- traumatic stress disorder.

In May 2005, she was one of five recipients of the UWM-SAC Above and Beyond Award for “excellence in teaching students with special needs while maintaining high academic standards.”

In April 2010 and 2011, she was recognized by UWM Libraries and Graduate School for her published work and its inclusion in the UWM Libraries Author Collection, and

In June. 2012, she was given the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Community Achiever Award in recognition of her valuable contribution of service in support of our community.
