Purpose

UWM’s Brief Alcohol & Other Drug Screening & Intervention Programs offer students the opportunity to examine their use of and experiences with alcohol and/or other drugs in a nonjudgmental and confidential setting. Offered by the Norris Health Center Office of Health Promotion & Wellness, the goal is to help students make substance use decisions that result in fewer negative consequences.

Students are provided with personalized feedback about their substance use based on information shared by the student through reflection, discussion and survey questions. It is up to the student what to do with the information. If a student is interested in making a change, a range of options will be explored and a plan will be developed. The programs do not provide a diagnosis of substance abuse or dependence.

Programs Offered

Alcohol & Your College Experience (ACE). ACE includes a two-hour group session plus a one-hour individual personalized feedback session with a trained facilitator.
Cannabis Health Education and Your College Experience (CHEC). CHEC includes a two-hour group session plus a one-hour individual personalized feedback session with a trained facilitator.
ACE Modified (ACE-M). ACE-M includes two to three one-hour individual sessions with a trained facilitator and can involve the exploration of alcohol, cannabis and/or other drugs. ACE or CHEC is a pre-requisite for ACE-M for mandated students.
