February 24, 2017  |  News & Events, Sad News, Timely Announcements

Dear Colleagues,

I’m sorry to announce the passing of Adolph Rosenblatt, a beloved artist, sculptor, and member of Peck School of the Arts (PSOA) Art & Design faculty for 33 years and professor emeritus since 1999.

PSOA Dean Scott Emmons shares his reflection on Professor Rosenblatt’s career and life: “Adolph moved his family from New York to Milwaukee in 1966. His wife, Suzanne, tells that for over 30 years as an artist, Adolph documented life as it is lived in Milwaukee – in restaurants, movie houses, alleyways, and gas stations. Adolph’s work has been shown widely throughout the country, notably in New York at the Shoelkopf, Tibor de Nagy, Dorsky, and Razor Galleries; in Boston at the Kanegis Gallery; in Los Angeles at the Olympics and in Minneapolis, Provincetown and Chicago. Rosenblatt’s work can be found in private and public collections including the Library of Congress, Lester Avnet Collection, Vincent Price Collection, Williamstown Museum and the Milwaukee Art Museum. He was the recipient of the Wisconsin Visual Art Achievement Award in 2013. It is common to hear stories from alumni about the impact Adolph’s teaching had on their careers.”

An obituary article is online. A public memorial will take place at noon on March 26 at the UWM Zelazo Center, 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd.  Our condolences to Adolph’s family and to the many others whose lives he touched.

Take care,

Johannes
