November 2, 2015  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here are this week’s (with an ‘extra’ hour in the morning and it is November) updates from Academic Affairs:

Kudos

– Jeff Sommers, Africology and Global Studies, has just published a well-received book, “Race, Reality, and Realpolitik,” on US-Haiti relations in the period preceding the US occupation of Haiti. Well done, Jeff!

– Mark Zoromski, Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies, was elected into the Milwaukee Press Club Media Hall of Fame. The Media Hall of Fame honors the men and women who shaped journalism in Milwaukee and Wisconsin. This is indeed an honor, Mark. Congratulations!

– Nikole Bouchard, Architecture, and her team of Milo Bonacci and Julien Leyssene, were one of eight design teams, out of a total of 81 international submissions, whose competition entries were showcased at Sukkahville 2015, the 5th annual competition conducted by the Kehilla Residential Programme in Toronto. Their Sukkah was made from cotton canvas, wood, and jute. At the end of the festival this fall, it will be disassembled and reused in the city of Toronto to create public artwork.

– Nader Sayadi, graduate student in the Architecture PhD program, was given a Barakat Trust Award for 2015-16 for archival research in Iran, for his work on the Architectural History of the Silk Textile Workshops of Kashan.

– The College of Nursing’s online PhD program has been recognized with a “Students Before Profits” award highlighting the program’s “Top 10 ranking among non-profit, on-line doctoral programs in nursing. Well done, Sally and your team!
