Good morning, colleagues. I hope you had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs:

Kudos

– Pradeep Rohatgi, Professor in CEAS, has been selected as the winner in the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Eureka Awards program in the Lifetime Achievement category. This award recognizes innovation and creativity. Well done, Pradeep!

– Aparna Datey, Academic Programs Coordinator for Global and International Studies Programs at the Center for International Education (CIE), was recognized as “Advisor of the Year 2014” by the Advisors and Counselors Network (ACN) for outstanding contributions in Student Services. The Week:

Tuesday
We continue our unit-wide budget meetings this week and today we meet with the School of Continuing Education. The Chancellor’s Cabinet also meets and the budget task force meets in the afternoon. I am also scheduled to meet with the UC in the afternoon (I meet with them bi-weekly).

Wednesday
I have a regular meeting with VC Robin Van Harpen and the Chancellor, plus meetings with direct reports. I also have faculty mentoring and a space planning meeting.

Thursday
I’m doing the welcome for the Ethics in Knowledge Organization conference, meetings with VCs Robin Van Harpen and Michael Laliberte, and there is a meeting of the Work Group on Undergraduate Advising.

Friday
I have several meetings with deans and direct reports. The Budget Communication Task Force also meets.

From the UWM Research Foundation
– On Thursday, May 28 from 4:30 – 7 p.m., UWMRF hosts the annual First Look Forum with MCW and other regional partners, including Marquette, MSOE, and the Blood Center. Faculty presentations of technology give an audience of inventors and entrepreneurs a “first look” at potential commercial opportunities.

Panther Pride in Cycling
– Join your fellow Panthers in proving that UWM logs the most miles by bike in the City of Milwaukee by visiting the League of American Cyclists Town-Gown Showdown website to register as a UWM team rider today!

From University Relations
– Apply now to be a TEDX UW-Milwaukee Speaker. The deadline for faculty, staff, and students to apply is June 1. More information is available at http://www.tedxuwmilwaukee.com/.

Award Nominations Sought
– Final call for nominations for the UW System Outstanding Women of Color in Education Awards and the Dr. P.B. Wisconsin Health News Briefing
– Panel discussion of community and population health on Tuesday, June 2 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Zilber School of Public Health. For information and registration, see Wisconsin Health News.

From the Community Engaged Scholars Network
– The Community Engaged Scholars Network will be hosting a Summer Institute on Monday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Kenilworth INOVA Gallery for faculty and staff interested in building stronger campus/community partnerships. From the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
– June 16 is the D2L Course Cleanup deadline. Instructors who need to save information from UWM D2L course sites in semesters prior to Fall 2011 must do so before June 16, 2015. See http://uwmltc.org/?p=8350 to learn more.
