Kudos

– Proposals from 14 faculty have been selected for Research and Creative Activities Support (RACAS) awards, representing meritorious scholarship across UWM. Well done!

– WUWM’s entire team of journalists won a regional first place award from the Radio Television Digital News Association in the “Overall Excellence” category. Also, WUWM’s education reporter, Rachel Morello, won a first-place regional award for her story, “Real Food, Not Ramen: College Students More Food Insecure than Ever.” These are among the highest honors for radio journalism. Both entries now move on to national competition with winners announced this June in New York City. Congratulations!

– UWM is ranked 130 on the list of top 225 universities for technology transfer. Congratulations!

– Social Work Department Chair Joan Blakey organized an incredibly successful event on social work macro practice on Wednesday April 19 in the student union. The film 53206 was shown to an audience of more than 600 members of the UWM and Milwaukee communities. It is events like these that garner support for the academic and social policy expertise of our faculty to create real social and economic change in our community. Well done, Joan!

– Peck School of the Arts was named one of the top 30 international film schools! Way to go, PSOA!

– Octavio Santos has been awarded the 2017 APA/APAGS Award for Distinguished Graduate Student in Professional Psychology by the American Psychological Association. This prestigious national award will be presented to him at the APA/APF Awards Ceremony during the 2017 APA Convention in Washington, DC. Well done!

– Cari B. Rosoff was awarded the Graduate Student Ethics Prize, awarded by the APA Ethics Committee and the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students, for her paper, “Ethics in College Sexual Assault Research.” This award is given to only one graduate student nationally each year. Congratulations!

– The College of Letters and Science’s German program has received $172,500 through the Rudolf and Helga Kaden Memorial Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. These funds will be used to expand the activities and scope of the German program – from better preparing MPS students for German language courses at the college level, to expanding German language courses on campus and tailoring them to more specific student audiences. Congratulations to Garry Davis and Jonathan Wipplinger for their work on this!

– Congratulations to the Accessibility Resource Center award winners (see link below):

  • Matthew Hoeppner, Teaching Assistant, College of Letters and Science
  • Julie Kailin, Associate Professor, School of Education
  • Heather Owen, Associate Scientist, College of Letters and Science
  • Lyndsay Jo Smanz, Lecturer, School of Information Studies
  • James Tasse, Senior Lecturer, Peck School of the Arts
