March 30, 2015  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning everyone. Here is this week’s update from my Office:

Budget update

– Just a reminder: Here are two important links if you need some updated information on the budget and related issues: https://uwm.edu/ucnews/ and https://uwm.edu/budget.

Welcome

– New School of Education Dean Alan Shoho starts this week. Welcome to UWM, Alan, I am looking forward to working with you!

Kudos

– UWM has been awarded an NSF I-Corps site grant under the leadership of Mechanical Engineering’s Ilya Avdeev and Junhong Chen. This initiative will bring together UWM, MCW, Marquette, and MSOE to utilize the best practices for advancing technologies to the marketplace. This is really outstanding work. Congratulations Ilya, Junhong, and Brian Thompson!

New Website for Academic Affairs

– The Division of Academic Affairs redesigned our web site and it is now live at https://uwm.edu/academicaffairs/. I invite you to take a look and send any comments or suggestions about the website to acadaffweb@uwm.edu.

Here is a synopsis of the week:

Monday

I start the day with another budget meeting, followed by meetings with Ewa Barczyk and Robin Van Harpen. The Chancellor’s Cabinet meets, and the Chancellor and I will meet with the Zilber School of Public Health on the current budget scenario in the afternoon. Last week we had a similar meeting with the Lubar School of Business. We plan to visit all schools and colleges before the end of the semester.

Tuesday

I have a weekly meeting with the Chancellor, meetings with a number of my direct reports, and in the afternoon, the Academic Leadership Committee meets off campus as guests of the Indian Community School (ICS) in Franklin as a result of close collaborations between ICS and UWM’s Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education. Agenda items include a tour of the unique facility, a budget update, and homecoming.

Wednesday

I’m attending a Peck School of the Arts faculty meeting. I also have regular meetings with Secretary of the University Trudy Turner and Michael Laliberte, plus a space planning meeting.

Thursday

There is a budget meeting with the School of Education, plus meetings with direct reports.

Friday

The Budget Planning Task Force meets, I have regular meetings with Sally Lundeen and Pat Borger, and I’m doing an orientation session with SOE Dean Alan Shoho.
