Rachel Schiffman, Associate Vice-Provost for Research (Office of Research) and Associate Dean for Research (College of Nursing), will be recognized on May 5th  as part of the team selected to receive the Julie Lathrop Nursing Research Award at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.  The team, led by co- PIs Dr. Kathy Sawin, CON Joint Chair in the Nursing of Children and Dr. Marianne Weiss, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, St. Joseph / Sister Rosalie Klein Professor of Women’s Health at the CON at Marquette, conducted the study, Self-Management Guided Discharge Teaching for Parents of Hospitalized Children.  This team involved experienced investigators from UWM, Marquette and Children’s Hospital developing frontline staff nurses in the role of research.  The research nurses were critical to the development,  implementation, analysis, and dissemination of the iPad-based intervention. The award is named after the late Julie Lathrop, who was a pediatric nurse and the Director of Educational Services at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for 16 years and is given from the Julie Lathrop Research Foundation during the celebration of Nurses Week (May 6-12).
