June 8, 2015  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s brief update from Academic Affairs:

Regents Update

Please see the message from the Chancellor last Friday where he recapped the full Board of Regents meeting.

Accreditation

Some very good news about accreditation: The Higher Learning Commission team has recommended continuation of UWM’s accredited status. The team found that UWM met all the criteria and recommended that we submit a progress report on assessment of student learning in the degree programs and general education. The team has also recommended approval of the flex option. We will be submitting an institutional response to the report, which will be considered by the Commission before making the final decision. Dev, to you and your team, thank you! This was a remarkable effort under your leadership over the last couple of years.

Kudos

We also have other good news to share…

– A major grant from the Helene Fuld Health Trust will fund nursing scholarships at UWM:

– Assistant Professor of History Katie Paugh’s article, “Yaws, Syphilis, Sexuality, and the Circulation of Medical Knowledge in the British Caribbean and the Atlantic World,” published in the Summer 2014 issue of the Bulletin of the History of Medicine, has been selected for the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians article prize. This is for the best article on women/gender/sexuality published by a woman who lives in North America, and the competition is always very stiff. This is a wonderful acknowledgment of your work, Katie, and congratulations!

– M.Arch. student Robert Guertin’s interview with world-famous Japanese architect, Sou Fujimoto, has appeared in archdaily, with photographs of the project Fujimoto led at SARUP. See
