June 13, 2016  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good Afternoon, Colleagues. Here are this week’s updates from Academic Affairs.

Budget Forum (Note Time Change)

Just a reminder that you are invited to attend a public forum on UWM’s budget issues tomorrow (Tuesday, June 14), from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the UWM Ballroom East. We are hosting this forum at the request of the Milwaukee Democratic Legislative Caucus, which was based on Regent President Regina Millner’s encouragement for UW System institutions to hold public discussions on the impact of budget cuts. Based on the request, the purpose of the forum is to provide the public with an opportunity to comment on our budget situation.

The Week

Monday

We have our usual Chancellor’s Cabinet meeting today. The Honors College has its New Student Orientation where I will make a few remarks. In the afternoon, CEMAT meets. The agenda items include UWM Home Page Redesign, the SEM Dashboard Project, WiscAid Survey Information, and Financial Aid Funds from System.

Tuesday – National Flag Day

June 14th is National Flag Day as it commemorates the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777.

I have my weekly meeting with my staff, followed by a meeting with VC Robin Van Harpen. Later, I’ll attend the University Committee and meet with Dean Kanti Prasad. I end the day attending the Democratic Legislative Caucus public forum on UWM’s Budget (see above).

Wednesday

I have a number of direct report meetings and in the afternoon, I meet with L&S Humanities Department Chairs. Our Distinguished Professors also meet with President Ray Cross.

Thursday

The Academic Planning and Budget Committee meets. I also meet with Dean Alan Shoho on goals and priorities for 2016-17 (These are meetings I have set up with all the deans over the summer.)

Friday

I meet with Dean Tom Lipinski and Interim Dean Ron Cisler on goals and priorities for 2016-17. I also meet with Joely Urdan and have my weekly meeting with the Chancellor. At the end of the day, I’ll attend farewell celebrations for Associate Dean Cindy Walker and Dean Sally Lundeen.

Other

Colleagues, I also want to express my shock and horror after yet another mass killing of innocent people. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act.

Take care,

Johannes
