July 20, 2015  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good Morning, Colleagues.

Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs:

Kudos

– Ewa Barczyk shared with me that UWM Libraries’ impressive Milwaukee Polonia digital collection will be recognized with the Congressman Clement J. Zablocki “Civic Achievement Award” from the Polish-American Congress-Wisconsin Division at their November 8 meeting. This award is presented to individuals and organizations that are making a major difference within the Polish community both in the Milwaukee area and throughout the state of Wisconsin. Congratulations!

– Dan Patnode, Student Support Services, received his fifth Department of Education grant, which will bring $306,229 per year to UWM, employ three full-time employees, and six part-time student workers every semester, in addition to providing academic services to 250 students each year. Well done, Dan!

The Week:

Monday
The Chancellor’s Cabinet meets and then the Chancellor and I will attend the Academic Staff Committee meeting. The rest of the day is taken up by meetings with direct reports and budget meetings.

Tuesday
I meet with the Deans in the morning, followed by a number of meetings with direct reports.

Wednesday
I have meetings with direct reports including budget discussions.

Thursday
I will spend most of the day wrapping up stuff before I leave for South Africa.

Additional information and conference registration is at www.nclca.org.

University-Neighborhood Initiative to Engage
Each year Neighborhood Relations hosts UNITE (University-Neighborhood Initiative to Engage) which is a visit initiative focused on engaging students as they move-in to the neighborhoods surrounding the UWM campus. This year UNITE will take place on Tuesday, August 25 and will include about 1500 student addresses on the near eastside. Individuals and departments have two ways to get involved.

  1. You can volunteer for a two hour UNITE shift on the Fall Welcome volunteer website (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040545adaa28a46-askmetents). It’s a great way to spend time walking around the beautiful eastside neighborhoods delivering goody bags to returning students.
  2. Your department can contribute something to the UNITE bag like a small promotional item, informational flyer/brochure, event calendar, etc. If you have something to contribute, please have 1500 delivered to Chapman 180B by Tuesday, August 18. As an FYI, we do include the full Fall Welcome schedule in the UNITE bag.

If you have any questions, please contact Keri Duce at klduce@uwm.edu.
