January 17, 2018  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Kudos

The Burke Foundation has approved a grant of up to $354,788 to support the MKE Scholars Program for the 2018-2019 academic year, stating, “We are encouraged and inspired by [UWM’s] commitment and passion in making a difference in the lives of youth in Milwaukee.”

Dr. Marylou Gelfer, Communications Sciences and Disorders, recently received the 2018 WSHA Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to an individual for years of professional service to the field of communication disorders. The Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (WSHA) Awards board commented on the indelible mark she has made on so many lives with her service and dedication to the profession. Special thanks are extended to her for all she has done and given during her remarkable career. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Marylou! We are really proud of you.

Last Thursday, 63 colleagues presented at CETL’s 3rd Annual Teaching and Learning Symposium, and more than 200 instructors from 74 campus units participated in the symposium sessions. By all counts, the symposium was a great success. Congratulations to the CETL team for organizing this important event!
