August 28, 2017  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Special Word of Welcome

Colleagues, please join me in a special word of welcome to our new faculty members and teaching academic staff that have joined our campus this year.

Kudos

Taylor Koss, former Panther track and field captain, took home two bronze medals from the 2017 Deaflympics hosted in Samsun, Turkey. Well done, Taylor!

Richard Grusin, English, has agreed to serve as Director of the Center for 21st Century Studies. Richard previously served as Director from 2010-2015, and we are glad to have his leadership as the Center approaches its 50th anniversary in 2018. Congratulations, Richard!

Dr. Jean Creighton and her staff at the UWM Planetarium hosted more than 2,500 people of all ages on the KIRC lawn to observe the partial total eclipse on Monday, August 21. Thanks, Jean!

In the morning, I’ll attend the Chancellor’s Campus Budget meeting and have meetings with some of my direct reports. In the afternoon, Tim Opgenorth and I will continue our meetings with schools/colleges to discuss scholarships and financial aid. Wednesday’s meeting is with CON, HBSSW, and SOE. In the afternoon, I’ll attend the International Student and Scholar Services Ice Cream Social and also say a few words of welcome to our international students.
