Good Morning, Colleagues.

After a summer break, here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs:

Campus Budget Forum

– Please plan to attend the 10th in a series of Campus Budget Forums on Wednesday, August 19 from 2-3 p.m. in the Student Union Wisconsin Room. Click here for more information, including a link to the streamed meeting.

Kudos

– Diane Reddy (Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Psychology) was selected for a 2015 Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE)/Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning. This international award recognizes educators for their innovative and student-centered approaches to teaching and learning. Diane was honored at the STLHE Annual Conference and at Brightspace’s FUSION Conference in June and Amy Mangrich (also from the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) received a grant from the UW System Learning Technology Development Council to develop and share a fully automated tool that will streamline captioning of online media, automate billing to departments, and facilitate student success. The grant product will utilize Automatic Sync Technologies’ human transcription services to create video and audio captions, which are integrated into the My Media/Kaltura tool in Brightspace/Desire2Learn.

– Gabriela Alejandra Nagy, PhD student in Psychology and an AOP Fellow, was selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship through the 2015 Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee (HPGM) Advanced Degree Program. Gaby will be honored at the 2015 Annual Meeting that will be held on August 21 at the Pfister Hotel. Congratulations, Gaby!

– Christine Larson, Psychology, received a 5-year R01 grant, “Acute neurocognitive-affective predictors of chronic post-trauma outcomes,” from the National Institute of Mental Health. In this project, she and her collaborators will collect neuroimaging and other assessments within two weeks of experiencing a traumatic event in order to identify predictors of long-term post-trauma distress, such as PTSD and depression.

– Timothy Patrick, Health Informatics and Administration, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Functional Informatics and Personalized Medicine (IJFIPM) effective August 1 and Richard Grusin presented at the international symposium, The Secret Life of Objects: Media Ecologies, held in São Paulo on August 3 and in Rio de Janeiro.

– UWM took first place in the annual competition between the Midwest Schools of Architecture to recognize the strongest designs. UWM has been competing in the Chicago awards program for more than thirty years and has won over 70% of all the awards during the years we participated! Way to go, Architecture students!
