Good Morning, Colleagues – not too long before the end of the semester! Here is a summary of the week:

Kudos

– Thanks to all who participated in last week’s HLC accreditation site visit! Particular kudos to Dev Venugopalan and the Reaccreditation Steering Committee, as well as Gesele Durham, Sam Harshner, Laura Pedrick, Cheryl Andres, Sue Podgorski, Lynn Wilk, and Jackie Lichey. And kudos to all involved in the Flex Option initiative, which was also reviewed by the HLC. We will receive a draft report from the site team within a month.

– Congratulations to WUWM journalists for winning two first place and four merit awards in the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association.

Budget Update

On April 21, the Milwaukee Common Council passed a resolution in support of UWM. CHS Dean Candidate Feedback

Please remember to send me your feedback (by Tuesday, April 28) on the two College of Health Sciences Dean Candidate finalists that visited campus last week. See: http://uwm.edu/secu/news_events/chs-dean/index.cfm. There is a separate feedback form for each candidate. Later this week, I will meet with the department chairs, the interim dean, as well as the associate and assistant deans in the CHS to discuss the candidates.

Work Group on Undergraduate Advising Open Forum

Position Opening

– Summer faculty appointment to support Learning Communities – an assistant, associate, or full professor to partner with the Executive Director of the Student Success Center to coordinate the development of the proposal to implement Retention Plan Objective 2b. The summer appointment timeline is flexible based on the ideal candidate. Submit a letter of intent to Phyllis King (pking@uwm.edu) by May 15. The Week:

Monday
I begin the week with a School of Architecture & Urban Planning budget meeting – this will be the 7th visit that the Chancellor and I have with schools and colleges. Following this meeting is the Chancellor’s Cabinet and my weekly meeting with the Chancellor. The CEMAT group meets in the afternoon to discuss final recommendations from the scholarship committee and a discussion on how we can maximize campus events as recruitment tools. In the evening, I will attend a UW System Chancellor and Provosts meeting in Milwaukee to discuss inter-institutional collaboration.

Tuesday
The School of Education (the 8th visit) has its budget meeting, and the Budget Planning Task Force meets. I also have a number of meetings with deans and direct reports, as well as my weekly meeting with VC Robin Van Harpen. There is also a College of Nursing all-school meeting with the Chancellor (No. 9).

I have an Elmbrook School District partnership meeting, along with other UWM colleagues. I’m attending the Chancellor’s Innovation Award Luncheon, which will honor Bud Selig. In the afternoon, there is a space-planning meeting, there are more budget meetings, and I’m attending the Faculty of Color reception.

Thursday
A day of direct report meetings. I also have my weekly meeting with VC Michael Laliberte and the Chancellor and I will have our 10th all-school meeting when we meet in the afternoon with the Peck School of the Arts.

Friday
Our 11th meeting with schools and colleges will be Friday morning when the Chancellor and I meet with the School of Information Studies. The Budget Communication Task Force meets again (every Friday), and I’ll be attending the May First Friday gathering at the School of Freshwater Sciences (see Announcements). I also meet with the leadership in the CHS to discuss feedback on the two Dean candidates for the College.

Saturday
I’m doing the welcome for the 9th annual Roberto Hernandez Center Latino graduation banquet in the Union Ballroom.

– Travel “upstream” to Freshwater Sciences’ new Harbor Campus facilities to celebrate UWM’s many contributions to a healthier Wisconsin as the School of Freshwater Sciences and the Zilber School of Public Health host First Friday on May 1 from 4 – 6 p.m.

UPAF Ride for the Arts
– The UPAF Ride for the Arts will be held on May 31. The “Prowling Panthers Bicycle Club” has been set up (I will also join) at the ride registration website (http://events.upaf.org/), and please join us using the team password Pounce2015.
