Kudos

UWM

UWM received the Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools Award, which recognizes schools that reduce environmental impacts and costs; improve the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff; and provide environmental education that teaches many disciplines and is especially good at effectively incorporating STEM, civic skills, and green career pathways.

Lubar School

Lubar School of Business’s Accounting program will be recommended for accreditation by the Peer Review Team of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Professor Paul Fischer reports, “The supreme compliment is that they are taking our methods home to implement at their campus.” Congratulations to all!

Nasiri and Pero

Adel Nasiri, Senior Associate Dean of Research, and Wendy Pero, University Services Program Associate, organized the College of Engineering and Applied Science’s Student Research Poster session on Saturday, April 23. With 90 student posters, 85 judges, GE and Eaton sponsorship, and more than $4,000 in prizes, the event is one of the college’s annual highlights. Very well done!

The Week:

Monday

Fairly routine Monday with the Chancellor’s Expanded Cabinet meeting and my meetings with VC Robin Van Harpen, UC Chair John Riesel, and direct reports.

Tuesday

There is a deans morning meeting, followed by meetings with VC Tom Luljak, SOE Dean Alan Shoho, and direct reports. I will attend part of the University Committee meeting and end the day with a budget meeting.

Wednesday

A day of dean meetings: Stan Stojkovic (HBSSW), Brett Peters (CEAS), and Maria Gajdardziska-Josifovska (Graduate School). I will also attend a CEMAT co-sponsors meeting. I’m attending a reception for a delegation from Mexico’s University of Guanajuato System, as well as the Phi Beta Kappa induction ceremony.

Thursday

The Chancellor, VC Van Harpen, and I are attending a meeting of the Letters and Science faculty, and I meet with Deans Tom Lipinski (SOIS), Sally Lundeen (CON), and Scott Emmons (PSOA), Legal Affairs Director Joely Urdan, and Mark Harris. Thursday evening will be busy since I do the welcome at both the 2016 Holzheimer “Maps & America” Lecture and the Water Talent Development Summit.

Friday

I have a weekly meeting with the Chancellor, meetings with direct reports, and I’m stopping by the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Wisconsin Room (noon-4pm, I encourage all to attend!) The Chancellor and I are attending a meeting of the College of Engineering and Applied Science faculty. I end the day with a tour of the School of Freshwater Sciences.

This is a particularly pleasant campus service opportunity.
