Kudos

– UWM’s TRIO & Pre-College Programs sponsored a Parent Expo event on Saturday, April 1 in the UWM Student Union. The Parent Expo, funded through a grant received from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Global Inclusion and Engagement, was a collaboration between UWM TRIO & Pre-College Programs, Milwaukee Public Schools, and Milwaukee Area Technical College and attracted more than 200 participants, who attended educational workshops and a community resource fair.

– Tom Haigh, SOIS, received two prizes (Scranton Prize and Wilkins Prize) from the Business History Conference for his article, “IBM Rebuilds Europe: The Curious Case of the Transnational Typewriter.” Congratulations, Tom!

– We had a very successful Science Olympiad on Saturday where we hosted nearly 1500 middle and high school students!

– UWM Dance alum Keely Garfield received a prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for her work in choreography. Congratulations, Keely!

Update on Fire
We are very fortunate that no one was hurt in Saturday night’s fire in the Peck School of the Arts (PSOA), though there was much damage. Many PSOA classes will be canceled today and tomorrow, but classes and rehearsals in the Zelazo Center, Kenilworth Building, and Mitchell Hall will be held as scheduled. The Theatre, Art, and Music buildings will be closed to faculty and staff who are encouraged to work from home today and tomorrow. Read the Chancellor’s message.
