Chancellor’s Plenary
– The spring Plenary will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bader Concert Hall of the Zelazo Center. I hope to see you at this important campus-wide event where the Chancellor will amongst other topics, provide an update on the state budget.
Kudos
– A word of congratulations to Junhong Chen, (Mechanical Engineering), who has received one of the new Regent Scholar awards, which recognize and reward innovative faculty-student research and provide support for collaborative UW project initiatives with Wisconsin business and industry. Junhong’s project focuses on engaging undergraduate students in developing a prototype smart phone-supported sensor for low-cost, real-time monitoring of heavy metal ions in water. Synopsis of the week
Monday
I start the day with a Social Work accreditation site team meeting, followed by my weekly meeting with the Chancellor. The Chancellor’s Cabinet meets, as does the Chancellor’s Enrollment Management Team. The CEMAT agenda includes an in-depth discussion on retention.
Tuesday
The University Committee meets and will be attended by both the Chancellor and I. There are also the regular meetings with my direct reports, including meetings with Dean Magda Peck (Zilber School of Public Health) and Dean Tom Lipinski (School of Information Studies).
Wednesday
The Chancellor’s Plenary is held today at 2:30 p.m. (see notice above). I also have meetings with direct reports, plus regular meetings with Secretary of the University Trudy Turner and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Affairs Robin Van Harpen.
Thursday
The Academic Planning and Budget Committee meets and I will attend. The Faculty Senate meets in the afternoon. I also have a meeting with the representative of College Possible, an organization focused on making college admission and success possible for low-income students through an intensive curriculum of coaching and support. Friday
I have a regular monthly meeting with Dean Rodney Swain (College of Letters and Science) and on Friday afternoon the Data Analytics Steering Committee meets.

4th Street Forum on the Road
– Living as a Low-Wage Worker: In collaboration with Milwaukee Public TV, the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare warmly invites the campus community to examine this issue during a taping of MPTV’s “4th Street Forum on the Road,” this Thursday in UWM’s Alumni Fireside Lounge. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; taping begins at noon.
Proposals Requested for UW System Conference on Academic Literacy
